Arnold’s focus on Sydney FC

Graham Arnold after winning the Hyundai A-League Championship last May.

SKY Blues coach Graham Arnold has vowed to maintain a complete focus on Sydney FC for the remainder of the A-League season before taking up his new role as national coach.

Arnold, 54, was announced as Socceroos coach last week and will be taking up the role following the World Cup in Russia.

At the press conference announcing his appointment, Arnold was quick to allay concerns his mind would be elsewhere.

The Sky Blues are looking to win back-to-back Hyundai A-League premierships and championships in the next two months and negotiating a tough Asian Champions League group.

Arnold immediately put to bed any concern he would be distracted from the task.

“My commitment to Sydney FC is 110 per cent until the end of this season,” he assured Sydney FC fans.

Arnold revealed he’d informed Sydney FC players about his decision earlier in the day of the official announcement and they had been supportive of the move, as the process to identify a successor
begins.

“We’ve gone through a process with the players about what was happening. And the discussion was fantastic,” he said.

“The players were really happy for me. They [the players] are united in the culture we have at the club that if someone has success, we take it as a team.

“To the fans of Sydney FC, I will give every bit of commitment from today to when we will finish this competition with silverware.

“My commitment moving forward is all about Sydney FC and supporting the Socceroos from afar.”

For Arnold’s Sydney FC, five league games are left followed by a Finals Series which could include another Grand Final appearance.
