Sydney’s housing construction boomed in 2017, with more homes built than ever before in a 12-month period.
The figures, released by the Department of Planning and Environment, showed a record 38,759 built in Sydney, exceeding the previous record in 2016 by more than 4,600 homes.
Two weeks ago, Australian Bureau of Statistics figures showed housing approvals across the state continued to soar with more than 70,000 home approvals granted in 2017.
This was the third consecutive calendar year that NSW recorded more than 70,000 building approvals.
Minister for Planning and Housing, Anthony Roberts, said the NSW Government was getting on with the job of delivering the homes and making it easier for first homebuyers to enter the market.
