Four boys and a Tigers mum

Lane Cove Tigers’ Doumit family - parents Lisa and Michael with sons Will, Ollie, Ben and Sam.

SOME sporting clubs pride themselves on how many trophies are in their cabinet, but for Lane Cove Tigers Junior Rugby League Club success is being valued differently as the Doumit family sign up their fourth child to play for the club this season.

Lisa and Michael Doumit’s four kids – 10 year old Will, nine year old Ollie, seven year old Ben and the newest addition to the club, 4 year old Sam, will all be taking to the field for the Tigers across four different divisions.

During 2018, Sam will line up in U/6s; Ben in U/7s; Ollie in U/9s and Will in U/10s.

If you thought your Saturday mornings were busy just take a moment to think about the logistics behind this family during the junior rugby league season.

Lisa is a proud “Tigers mum” and is an ever-present fixture on the sideline supporting her boys.

After meeting Lisa it’s not hard to see where her boys’ love of sport comes from.

As a paediatric physiotherapist by trade and a competitive triathlete and hockey player for fun, her boys definitely take after her and are determined, respectful players and quick as a whip on the field.

“Joining the Tigers family has been great for my boys and also for us as parents,” she said.

“To see the boys as part of a team, making great friends while building their confidence and having a heap of fun is really rewarding. But it’s not just about the kids, being able to join the club and give back whilst enjoying ourselves is just as good” says Lisa.

The Lane Cove Tigers, who were founded in 1925 but only reformed recently in 2012 as the family focused club they are today, brought in a new rule this year to celebrate this milestone and are offering the third child’s registration FREE.

Matt Girvan, Lane Cove Tigers Club Registrar, says “that’s the best kind of win for our local family run club and is a great way for us to support local families with multiple children”.

Lane Cove Tigers enjoyed a successful 2017 season – bringing home two premierships at North Sydney Oval and great results across all grades.

The Tigers’ Under 9s defeated Asquith Magpies 30-14 in their Grand Final while the Lane Cove Under 11s captured their third successive title with an impressive 40-18 victory against North Sydney.

Junior Cup opener

BALMAIN junior representative rugby league teams opened their 2018 NSWRL Junior Cup campaigns with losses to Penrith last Saturday at Panthers Stadium.

The Tigers U/16s were rolled 22-0 by the Panthers, who dominated possession in the sweltering heat.

Outstanding lock Brendan Tumeth, hooker Ray Raad and forward Henry O’Kane turned in strong performances for the gutsy Tiger cubs, who scrambled well in defence.

Penrith U/18s proved too strong for Balmain in SG Ball Cup, registering a 40-6 victory.
