JB’s World: Easter is just around the corner

EASTER IS around the corner and we again bring you our famous West Ryde Easter Parade & Fair on Saturday week March 24 celebrating 25 years when The Weekly Times and West Ryde Chamber of Commerce inaugurated the festival in the streets of West Ryde.

This year we’re able to also use the West Ryde Market Place Plaza. See you there.

SORRY TO report two deaths this week.

 

DENIS PERCY, the former very popular Police Commander at Ryde in years past who was larger than life and related well to the community as a whole and especially with the local Chambers of Commerce.

He later served with the United Nations peacekeeping force in Cyprus with great distinction. His funeral service is Thursday March 22 at St Mary’s Church Miller Street, North Sydney, commencing at 1pm followed by a wake at the Crows Nest Hotel.

Our sincere sympathy to his wife Alexandra and twin children Natalie and Grant.

CHARLES PHILLIPS formerly of Ryde and later Vimiera Village and Alan Walker Village passed away on Saturday March 10 just short of his 88th birthday. 

His funeral service is Monday March 19 commencing at 11am in St Anne’s Church Ryde.

His beloved wife Alice predeceased him some years ago but he was devoted to his children Sue, Graeme and Alison and ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Charles was a member with JB and friends of the Kingswood Tennis Club in “the gold old days” at Wolger Road Ryde.

A great mate and a proud family man. Rest in Peace Charlie.

SAM OLIVIERI of Top Ryde Tailoring fame heads This Week’s Birthday Honours List facing 83 candles on his birthday cake on St Patrick’s Day Saturday.  Have a good one Sam!

Dr Errol Tomkins of Linley Point wed to JB cousin Roslyn Horne Tomkins celebrates another birthday on Sunday same day as former Chinese swimming champion Diana Tsang and mad Tigers fan.

Olga Sawyer, better half of Alex of Rotary fame, also celebrates on Sunday while Christian Monks, son of Ronny and Andie Monks, turns 22.

Albert Yun former popular manager at Westpac Eastwood celebrates on Monday while Birgitte Messmann Nielsen celebrates in faraway Denmark on Tuesday with son Christoffer and family including brother Henrik.
