Letters to the Editor: Golden Girl’s sad memorial

Dear Sir,

After having eaten at the shopping precinct in Ermington, I went to dispose of my rubbish only to find the receptacle had no opening.

A passerby alerted me to the fact that this was not a rubbish bin but a monument to the late Betty Cuthbert AC MBE.

I was appalled, disgusted and saddened and still am!

Having known Betty and her mum and dad and taking into account she is the favourite daughter of the people of Ermington, this metal box on the footpath does absolutely nothing to glorify the memory of a truly great Australian.

Surely the Council (Parramatta, I believe) or we, the public can do better!
