Riverside Girls and Hunters Hill High closed after threats
Riverside Girls High and nearby Hunters Hill High School were closed by police investigating a possible bomb threat on Monday afternoon.
It is the second time in weeks police have focused on threats to Riverside Girls High where searches failed to find any suspicious material despite an extensive search believed to have involved up to five police vehicles.
“Police are aware of numerous threats made to schools in the Sydney metropolitan region,” a police statement read.
“Investigations are continuing and police are liaising with the Department of Education.
“Police are warning that making such threats is a serious criminal offence and every effort will be made to identify the person or persons responsible.”
Monday’s drama follows a similar incident last week that saw five NSW schools locked down after receiving threats over the phone as well as schools in the United Kingdom and Europe.
Police have not disclosed the nature of the threats although a group of hackers called ‘vacuation Squad’ claimed responsibility for some of last week’s overseas threats, but later denied involvement in Sydney.
Local police are believed to be working with Federal counterparts to determine if the local and overseas incidents are related.
