WIN with TWT: Dinosaur Festival events at Museum

Three TWT readers can win family passes to the annual Dinosaur Festival at the Australian Museum at 1 William Street Sydney.

Come along to the Museum this September and October for a dynamic program of exhibitions, Dinosaur Festival, photographic workshops, lunchtime lecture series, evening talks, kids activities and more.

There’ll be fun things to do and discover when you visit the Museum during the Dinosaur Festival where you can see, hear, touch and even smell the world of dinosaurs.

The dinosaur gallery is brought to life with skeletons, skulls, teeth, claws and hundreds of other fossils. Witness a life-sized dinosaur puppet come to life, discover ancient Australia when creating your own Dino Diorama to take home, learn about the evolution of dinosaurs to birds in an interactive theatre performance or take part in one of the many workshops.

Children will be inspired to make model dinosaurs and landscapes after looking at real fossils of the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods from September 29 to October 14 from 10.30am to 2pm.

Colour, cut and create using a range of modelling and natural materials. Take a family photo with a dinosaur, play with dino puzzles, books and resources in this exclusive space.

Cost $10 per child; adults FREE after general admission.

Kids aged 8-12 years can travel back in time to discover Australia’s ancient past with the AM’s amazing fossil collection on October 3 or 4 from 9am to 4pm.

This full day holiday program is jam-packed with hands-on activities, games and a behind-the-scenes tour!

Discover how geologists work in an interactive half-day science workshop on October 5 for kids aged 5-8 years from 9.30am to 12 noon or 2pm to 4.30pm. Learn about volcanoes, earthquakes and how landforms are made. Cost: $42

Dinosaurs in the Sky interactive theatre show from October 3-4-5 and 10-11-12 will explore the science of flight and the incredible evolution of feathered dinosaurs into modern birds.

Acacia Quartet to perform at Hunters Hill Music Concert

Three lucky TWT readers can win double passes to Hunters Hill Music’s next concert this Sunday September 23 featuring the Acacia Quartet in Hunters Hill Town Hall, Alexandra Street, Hunters Hill at 2.30pm.

In eight years the Acacia Quartet has won great respect for their versatile and inventive programs.

They’ve recorded six albums, with ‘Blue Silence’ earning a nomination for an APRA-AMCOS Art Music ‘Award for Excellence’.

Acacia made their international debut in Vancouver, Canada at the Roundhouse in 2016 and the following year were invited by the Christine Raphael Foundation to give their European debut, where they performed concerts in Berlin and recorded a CD with three string quartets by Günter Raphael for the Genuin record label.

Two further CDs will be released in 2018 in collaboration with recorder player Alicia Crossley and guitarist Matt Withers.

Acacia Quartet is proud to be Ensemble in Residence at the Australian Institute of Music.

WIN with TWT: Beecroft Orchestra in Concert

Two TWT readers can win double passes to The Beecroft Orchestra’s L’Affaire Francaise concert on Sunday September 16 in St Alban’s Anglican Church, Pembroke Street, Epping at 2.30pm.

The Orchestra will present a concert featuring Cesar Franck’s Symphony in D minor, the Belgian composer’s only symphony, as its main item.

Concert also includes the popular Suite Pastorale by Emmanuel Chabrier and concerto for harp and orchestra by Gabriel Pierne.

Soloist is Sydney based and internationally experienced harpist Emily Granger (pictured).

Emily has studied extensively in her native United States and now enjoys a busy professional life.

Conductor is the orchestra’s musical director Joanna Drimatis.

WIN with TWT: Ryde Eastwood Music Concert

The Beecroft Orchestra will perform a French theme which includes Cesar Franck’s Symphony in D Minor and Pierne’s Concerto for Harp featuring Emily Grainger.

Accomplished Emily has performed as principal harp with Chicago, Sydney, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Opera Australia Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, Chicago Philharmonic and Civic Orchestra of Chicago.

Her most notable performances have included recitals at the Sydney Opera House Utzon Room, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Centre’s Millennium Stage, Curtis Institute of Music and Lyon & Healy Hall.
