Cathie’s Column: Art in The Hills Exhibition

OAKHILL College in Old Northern Road Castle Hill hosts its 47th annual Art in The Hills exhibition this month, featuring a significant collection of paintings from respected artists.

The Opening Night Gala kicks off on Friday March 23 at 7pm with drinks, canapés and live music.

Touted as the longest running art show in the Hills district, the exhibition features some 450 artworks and artists of the calibre of Tommy Watson, Tim Storrier and Geoff Dyer.

Art in The Hills exhibition also includes finalists in The Hills Prize – a $7, 000 art award that sees entries from across Australia.

Exhibition continues on Saturday March 24 and Sunday March 25 with entry by donation. There’ll be a pop-up café on site over the weekend selling gourmet sausage sizzle and delicious home-made treats plus craft stalls with handmade jewellery, ceramics, candles, handbags and homewares. Sports medallion for talented Samira

FORMER ST Marks Primary School Drummoyne pupil Samira Dimeglio (pictured) displays the medallion she received for sporting excellence at the 17th annual Sydney Archdiocesan Primary School Sports Awards.

It was a second successive award for 12 year old Samira, an outstanding cricketer, who represented the NSW Primary Schools Sports Association team.

She was presented with her medallion by former Australian Hockeyroo Kellie Miller.


History of Mark Foy’s

Macquarie Branch of National Seniors Australia meets on the third Wednesday each month at Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club at 12 noon.

Speaker at the March 21 meeting is Julian Leatherdale who’ll talk on the history of Mark Foy’s and the Hydro-Majestic Hotel.

The branch offers the opportunity to over-50s of a place to meet and enjoy thecompany of people of a similar age group.

Guest speakers are popular and outings to interesting places and venues provide members with good company and a social

program which covers diverse outings to suit all age ranges.

Gladesville-Hunters Hill Ryde branch of NSW Combined Pensioners & Superannuants Association will meet next Monday March 19 at Gladesville RSL Community Club at 10.30am.

Lantern Club’s Crazy Whist

Ryde Lantern Club will hold a Crazy Whist Day next Monday March 19 in St Anne’s Church Hall, Church Street, Ryde commencing at 10.15am.
