Lane Cove Art Award Exhibition

The 55th Annual Lane Cove Art Award opens on Friday August 10 with hundreds of spectacular artworks on display at Gallery Lane Cove, 164 Longueville Road from 6pm. 

On show is a rich diversity of art, full of colour and variety from originals to artists’ prints, and styles from traditional to modern.

Entry fee for the Opening Night is $5, which includes catalogue and refreshments with proceeds going to Rotary Club of Lane Cove to fund community projects. 

Exhibition is then open from Saturday August 11 to Saturday August 18 from 10am to 4.30pm daily with admission $2 for catalogue (early closing 2.30pm Saturday August 18).

Total prize money this year is $9,250.

Lane Cove Art Award is organised by Lane Cove Council in conjunction with Lane Cove Art Society.

Art & Craft Fair at Alan Walker Village

A wide selection of gifts will be on show at the Art & Craft Fair on Saturday September 15 in Alan Walker Village, 1 Dalmar Place, Carlingford from 10am to 2pm.

Items on display and for sale include art work, plants, cooking, embroidery, greeting cards, hand made scarves, book binding, china painting and patchwork.

Blue Mountains Coach Excursion

Ryde Lantern Club have organised a day trip to the Blue Mountains on Friday August 10 in a 53-seat luxury coach.

Members of Hornsby Lantern Club and Eastwood branch of Country Women’s Association will join the group for a fun day of sightseeing.

All welcome. Coach departs Asquith Bowling Club at approximately 7.30am and St Anne’s Ryde 8am en route to Windsor/Richmond where you can enjoy morning tea before touring through Kurrajong, Bilpin, Mt Victoria, Govetts Leap Lookout and Blackheath.

Next destination is The New Ivanhoe Hotel at Blackheath where you’ll step back into the 1930s art deco era and enjoy roast lunch, dessert, tea and coffee in front of open log fires.

After lunch relax while travelling to Katoomba, cliff drive, Leura and Wentworth Falls before returning to Ryde at approximately 4.30pm and Hornsby 5.15pm.

Bush Music Club Family Dance

Experienced Paddy’s River Band will play at Bush Music Club’s next Family Dance this Saturday August 4 in Beecroft Community Centre from 7.30pm to 11.30pm.

Enjoy bush/folk music with supper/refreshments included for singles, couples and families’ enjoyment.

Local business spot-prizes can be won. Dances are walked though and called; others will assist newcomers with a smile. Dress entry is casual. Singing Workshop

Macquarie Singers will hold a FREE Singing Workshop this Saturday August 4 at Epping Baptist Church, 1-5 Ray Road, Epping from 2pm to 5pm.

Workshop directed under the baton of Principal Conductor Dr Sarah Penicka-Smith. All welcome. Just email [email protected] to let organisers know how many people are coming.

The workshop will be followed by a social gathering at Epping Club.

Epping Probus seeks members

Epping & District Probus Club is a social club for retired or semi-retired men and are seeking persons interested in membership.

The Club meets on the second Monday each month in Epping Presbyterian Church hall from 10am to 12 noon and runs regular social activities including speakers, musical afternoons, movie attendances, outings, walks, coffee morning teas, theatre performances and tours. Hunters Hill Quilt Show

Biennial Hunters Hill Quilt Show opens on Thursday August 9 in the historic Hunters Hill Town Hall from 7.30pm with the presentation of prizes by local artist Robyn Ross. Entry $20.

The Show is open to the public from Friday August 10 until Sunday August 12 from 10am to 4.30pm with $6 entry fee.

Samsung help for seniors

Have you been given a Samsung tablet or smartphone and are not sure how to use it or perhaps you have had one for some time and want to learn more?

Help is at hand at the Boronia Park Uniting Church, 93A Pittwater Road, Boronia Park with an 8-week course commencing Wednesday August 8 from 10 am to 11am.

Cost is $130 per person for the course including handouts and stylus pen and covers navigation tips, adding names and addresses, taking photos and videos, searching the internet, updating apps, using Skype, sending emails and backups.
