Eastwood Oval carpark idea called off after local survey

A community survey has ruled out an option of a commuter car park on Eastwood Oval.

Results of the survey of 1,565 Ryde residents were released on Monday with a majority of surveyed residents against the 270 space carpark on Eastwood Oval, proposed by Ryde MP Victor Dominello.

“The oval option won’t happen,” he said

“Sixty per cent of surveyed people do not want a solution that involves the lower Eastwood Oval, so that rules out that option.”

An alternative proposal to build a carpark at the Railway Station has also failed to attract majority community support.

Ryde Labor candidate Jerome Laxale has called a crisis meeting to discuss the issue at Eastwood Oval this Saturday from 1pm.

He said the meeting will also discuss the failed proposal for a carpark in Rowe Street and at Eastwood Railway Station.

“Victor Dominello has now presented three bad parking solutions to the community without consultation or community support,” Clr Laxale said.

“He backed them all and they have all failed.

“I am now keen to meet with the community to try to reach consensus on the parking and congestion issues in Eastwood.”

Mr Dominello streesed he will continue to work towards a solution to Eastwood’s parking problem and told The Weekly Times on Friday that Clr Laxale had voted against expanding the Ryde City Council carpark off Glen Street, Eastwood.

“Eighty per cent of the survey participants who live in my electorate want a carpark solution,” Mr Dominello said.

“I will fight hard to find a solution to this difficult issue and I expect Transport for NSW will be in a position to make other recommendations.”
