EASTWOOD Junior Rugby are seeking players for their Girls Sevens teams.
The Woodies field sides in the U/10, U/12, U/14, U/16 and U/18 divisions and train twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays at T.G Millner top Field from 5pm to 6pm.
They compete in the Sizzling Sevens tournament with the first wave to kick off on Saturday February 17 and conclude April 7.
Eastwood Women’s U/17s capped a memorable 2017 – winning the State Championship and Central Coast titles while five members of the U/18s gained national selection.
Talented prospects Faith Nathan, Tatum Bird, Maddie Ashby, Pihuka Duff and Sariah Paki were chosen as part of a powerful Australian Youth squad for the 2018 Oceania Sevens tournament to be staged at St Ignatius College Riverview in April. A final camp will be held in March to cut the squad from 15 players to a 12.
The Oceania series is a selection tournament which may determine if the Australian Youth team qualifies for the Youth Olympics to be held in Buenos Aires Argentina in August 2018. These girls have also been invited into the 2018 Australian Sevens Rugby Development Program at Moore Park, the new home of Australian Rugby.
A second wave Sevens tournament runs from May 12 to June 30. It’s a great pathway for girls interested in playing Sevens rugby at the highest level. Inquiries Neil Tyler 0438 228 008.
