TWT TERRITORY business community was in festive mood last Wednesday night at the Northern Districts Business Awards Gala Presentation Dinner at the prestigious Epping Club which we sponsored. JB IS away today for Sri Lanka for the Asia Pacific Gathering of the International Scouts and Guides Fellowship Asia Pacific Gathering in Colombo.

While there I will also attend a meeting of the International Fellowship Asia Pacific Foundation which we officially launched in Ahmedabad India in July which will financially assist underprivileged Scouts and Guides to have a uniform and attend meetings and events.

SORRY TO hear the passing of Anne Myrtle Roach of Ryde and formerly Wollongong  mother of Steve “Blocker” Roach former Balmain Tigers great footballer and current radio and TV presenter and football commentator.

Funeral is today Wednesday September 5 at 11.30am in the Camellia chapel at Macquarie Park Crematorium.

DAWN FRASER our Balmain golden girl of swimming heads This Week’s Birthday Honours List belting up 81 laps of the birthday pool.

Dawn swam to international fame at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games when she scored the first two of her Olympic Gold medals and JB was fortunate enough to gain access to the pool on one occasion at my first Olympic Games. Dawn went on to become the first female swimmer to win Gold in three consecutive Oympics in 1956, 1960 and 1964.

Dawn had a brief political career as the Independent Member for Balmain in the NSW Parliament 1988-91 when a lot of Balmain Tigers supported her.

Bob Hill formerly of North Ryde and lately North Epping celebrates 96 golden years tomorrow and was toasted last night at Sydney St George’s Guild meeting at historic “Addington” Ryde where Bob has been a long time popular guide on Addington Open Days on the third Sunday every month.

Ka King Ng of Eastwood also celebrates tomorrow as does Leonie Gardener better half of Keith “Goanna” Gardner formerly of Inverell and Ryde and now Macksville while Betty Hankes-Driesma parties in Canada and Lyn Clark-Duff in Eastwood.

Peter and Margaret Cooper of former Coopers Tanks fame of West Ryde now site of Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club and Ryde Rotary Club celebrate their Diamond Wedding anniversary tomorrow while Frank and Caterina Olivieri celebrate a more modest twenty-one years wedded bliss.

Margaret and Kevin Wooden also join the Diamond Wedding club tomorrow celebrating their marriage at St Charles Borromeo Church Charles Street Ryde sixty years ago on September 6 1958 and have livd in Denistone East ever since. More details elsewhere. 

Former Ryde Councillor Andy Johnston of East Ryde celebrates 85 years on Friday as an old boy of Sydney Tech High School and a director of Sydney TAFE who represented originally as a Labor councillor and later as an Independent with the Ivan Petch team while Robyn Burton Boyd younger daughter of Joan Edmonds Burton originally of Ryde and later Surfers Paradise celebrates in  Bananaland Friday.

Helen Lange better half of John Verhelst of Hunters Hill and Burgundy France celebrates 65 on Saturday while Gary Masman son of Ron Masman of West Ryde celebrates Sunday same day as former TWT graphic artist Andreas Proestos turning 64.

David Tompkins former MD at Ryde Toyota and past president of West Ryde Chamber of Commerce celebrates Monday same day as Shai-Hee celebrates 63 years.

Rebecca Bolton of Ryde celebrates 33 on Tuesday sister to Joseph and Sarah and granddaughter of Anne and Joe Bolton former T J Andrews funeral directors at Ryde.

JB Goddaughter Julie Redshaw Free daughter of Tom and the late Beryl Redshaw  celebrates next Wednesday    same day as Anne Martin Hollywood, Joan Smith and  Clinton Hanney turning 56.  Happy daze all.
