Thomas Walker Convalescent Hospital (Rivendell) at Hospital Road Concord – one of two convalescent hospitals to have survived from the 19th century – will hold an Open Day at the historic estate this Sunday July 30.
Grounds open from 9.30am to 2pm with guided tours of the main building that involve two sets of stairs and take approximately one hour.
The first tour commences at 10am and continue every 30 minutes until the last one at 12.30pm. Bookings are essential as staff have to control the numbers going through the main building which limits them to the number of people they can take through on the day.
As the tours fill quickly, it is recommended that you book early to get your preferred tour time.
You may also visit the Joanna Walker Children’s Cottage Hospital and the Gate House (wharf) independently either before or after your tour.Tickets $15 adults; $10 concession and children FREE.
All bookings are done online: visit the web site: www.concordheritage.asn.au/walker-estates/thomas-walker-hospital and click on the Online Booking Banner, which will take you to the booking form. You’ll be able to print out your ticket, which you need to bring on the day. To pay using cash, phone secretary Lois Michel on 9744-8528.
