Former Scouts & Guides celebrate International Fellowship 60 Years
Former Scouts and Guides around the world celebrated International Fellowship Day on Saturday commemorating the founding of the International Fellowship of Former Scouts and Guides 60 years ago in Lucerne Switzerland.
To celebrate the birthday members lit candles and lanterns at the same time and communicated with skype and other forms around the world.
At Ryde NSW St George’s Guild members celebrated at their Ryde Guild headquarters at historic Addington where they lit electric battery candles because of the total fire bans caused by the bushfire emergency.
Celebrations concluded with a Trivia Night with proceeds to the Guilds Good Turn Fund. Winning table won specially decorated mugs from Ryde Guildmaster Phyllis Berger, pictured left.
Many greetings from overseas referred to the next World Conference of the Guilds in Sydney next October at Sydney Olympic Park when over 60 countries will be represented.
Sirius Cup Scout Camp at Balmoral
Cubs and Scouts from all over Sydney recently camped together at Balmoral Beach for the Sirius Cup, a water activities-based weekend camp.
Nine Cubs, six Scouts, one Venturer youth helper, five leaders and several parent helpers from Eastwood Marsfield Group camped together at this annual event.
The water activities included canoeing, kayaking, swimming, jumping off jetties, fishing and building sandcastles.
One Cub caught a puffer fish, but, not unsurprisingly, the group chose to eat spaghetti bolognaise that night rather than the catch of the day.
Triumphs in the water included a Scout and Venturer coming first in the double canoe marathon and the youngest Cubs in a four person canoe coming first in their final.
The hike around Middle Head disturbed two wedding photo shoots, and Akela’s birthday was a welcome excuse for cake.
Eastwood Marsfield group meet on Monday for Cubs and Thursday for Scouts in their hall at 72 Agincourt Road Marsfield.
