Three TWT readers can win double passes to the Joubert Singers’ 2015 Jubilate! Christmas Concert on Tuesday December 8 in Villa Maria Church Hunters Hill at 7.30pm.

Whether you just want to listen, or to sing along with some well-loved carols, this concert will delight audiences with beautiful music to celebrate the season.

The Concert includes a selection of inspiring choral works, traditional carols and a solo performance by the Chamber Ensemble.

It features the exciting Te Deum by Joseph Haydn, first performed in 1800, and also to be performed is Renaissance English composer William Byrd’s Beata Viscera, a motet celebrating Mary’s nativity, published in 1605.

The Singers will also sing two contemporary Australian works: Heather Percy’s In Bethlehem, That Noble Place, written in Canberra in 2013.

This piece tells the Christmas story from the perspective of a jolly Franciscan monk, James Ryman, who wrote the lyrics in 1492. The Joubert Singers continue their close links with the Sydney composer Matthew Orlovich, whose a cappella Nativity sets to music a poem by James McAuley, which contemplates the wonder of new light, from the perspective of the smallest bush spiders and snails.

As usual the concert will also include some favourite carols, where the audience can join the choir in celebrating the delight of Christmas.

The Joubert Singers recently celebrated 20 years as a community choir based in Hunters Hill.

They perform sacred and profane music from around the world, and from the distant past to the 21st century. The choir won two awards at the March 2015 Short + Sweet Voices Sydney competition, for performing contemporary Australian composer Matthew Orlovich’s All is One and One is All.

The Joubert Singers’ Artistic Director, Rachelle Elliott, is renowned for her ability to inspire her singers and enthuse audiences.

Admission $30, concession $25 (under 16, pensioners, seniors)
