Local Government Minister Paul Toole has suspended local Council elections due to be held on Saturday September 10.

Mr Toole said the suspension applies to all councils subject to a proposed forced merger and includes Canada Bay, Hunters Hill, Lane Cove and the City of Ryde.

“The order delays elections for these councils for a period of up to 12 months,” a letter this week from Mr Toole to Ryde City Council says.

“The date the government is working towards for these councils is in March, 2017.

“The exact date will be confirmed following the conclusion of the Council Boundary Review process.”

Due to the ongoing Council Boundary Review process it has yet to be determined if the March 2017 election will be for a proposed, forced merger mega council and whether or not our existing local councils will continue to this date.
