Eight final starters in Melbourne Cup field
Eight candidates remain in the ballot for the North Shore by-election when nominations closed last Thursday.
Two declared starters were scratched when nominations closed, namely North Sydney Mayor Jilly Gibson and Royal North Shore surgeon Dr Stephen Ruff.
Late entries included Harry Fine, Brian Owles and Ila Leesing.
HARRY FINE owns local business Stomp Footwear and has been a resident of the North Shore electorate for 20 years. He said his aim in this election is to send a message to Macquarie Street that politicians can’t take the voters of North Shore for granted and he opposes forced council mergers.
BRIAN OWLES is a retired Chartered Accountant, a Rotarian, and a member of Dying with Dignity.
He said he seeks to raise awareness and support the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2017 that is planned to be presented in Parliament for the legalisation of assisted dying in cases of intolerable suffering of terminally ill patients.
ILA LEESING is a Manager in the Banking Sector and a candidate for the Animal Justice Party which reflects public concern about the neglect of animals and animal protection issues by political parties. Her aim is to give a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves and to use the parliamentary systems to assist the wellbeing of animals.
First of the two TWT sponsoeed Meet the Candidates Forum was last night at Mosman RS Club and tonight’s Forum is at 7pm at Norths Rugby League Club, 12 Abbotts Street Cammeray and all are welcome.
